A Recovery-Oriented Wellness Program for Adults Living with Serious Mental Illness & Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders! A short-term demonstration project serving 6–8 adults with clinically stabilized serious mental illness, designed to bridge the gap between stabilization and sustained community recovery through structured, non-clinical wellness activities.
A 6-Week Innovation Pilot
Program Overview
The Whole Person Wellness, 6-Week Innovation Pilot, is a short-term demonstration project
operated by ForBetterBrains.org. The pilot serves 6–8 adults living with serious mental
illness who have achieved clinical stabilization and are approaching greater independence.
This pilot tests an innovative, non-clinical recovery support model that complements
traditional treatment and fills the gap between stabilization, continuum of care, and
sustained community recovery.
Innovation & Rationale
This pilot introduces an integrated, whole-person approach to recovery that moves beyond
symptom management to focus on; physical guided activities in nature, creativity, routines,
social connections, and dignity development. Rather than simply extending clinical services,
the program leverages experiential wellness modalities, that are rarely accessible to
individuals with severe mental illness, during post-stabilization phases.
